BETTER THAN I DESERVE

January 20, 2013 by Ken Blue

By Ken Blue

If I got what I deserve, I’d be in hell today.

When speaking to God, He would then turn away.

Even the Devil, wouldn’t give me time of day.

If I got what I deserve.

If I got what I deserve, she’d left long ago.

I would have lost every friend; everyone I know.

And like Cain, I’d be banished, with no place to go.

If I got what I deserve.

If I got what I deserve, there’d be no hope for me.

When I would do good, selfish motives I always see.

I vow I’ll do better, but lost I would always be.

If I got what I deserve.

I have no other argument; I have no other plea.

It is enough that Jesus died, and that He died for me.

He took all that I deserve; my substitute was He.

I’m better than I deserve, by grace sufficiency.

AMNON’S LOVE OR LUST?

January 18, 2013 by Ken Blue

tamar

By Ken Blue  See 2 Samuel 13:1-29

Amnon’s love for Tamar was nothing more than lust.

He thought of her night and day, and have her, he must.

But she was a pure girl in her body and mind,

And was unaware of Amnon’s wicked design.

But, Amnon could not eat, nor could he sleep at night.

And so his crafty friend advised, to solve his plight.

“Pretend that you are sick, and call her to your side,

To prepare you a meal, and for a time abide.”

So, innocent Tamar came, at Amnon’s request.

And prepared him a meal, one of her very best.

But, when she brought it to the bedside, where he lay,

He grabbed her and forced her, and then sent her away.

She pleaded with Amnon; “please do not cast me out.”

She was now defiled, and forced to wander about.

But Amnon now despised her, his lust turned to hate.

“Get her out of my sight; lock the door and the gate.”

Tamar had a brother, whose name was Absalom.

And he had heard from others what Amnon had done.

Absalom gave a party; told Amnon the time.

And when he arrived, he was murdered for his crime.

Amnon’s  love for Tamar was nothing more than lust.

He thought of her night and day, and have her, he must.

But she was a pure girl in her body and mind.

And many girls are fooled by lust’s wicked design.

SATAN’S COMFORTERS

January 6, 2013 by Ken Blue

By Ken  Blue

It was lost somewhere, a long time ago

How, and where I lost it I do not know

I retraced old paths in my mind

But emptiness is all I find.

A friend called Comfort keeps me warm inside

And helps me forget pain I cannot hide.

I come home; she’s waiting for me

Pressed to my lips, easing misery

My bed’s empty, wife, and children are gone

Comfort and I share the house all alone

She says forget; I should party and play

Soon I will forget what I lost that day

Country Gentleman made a fool of me

Christian Brothers; not Christian, or family

Black Velvet and Four Roses the casket doth line

Jose Cuervo was never a friend of mine

Comfort’s no longer comfort for me

She owns my soul, and my destiny

You’ll find many like her in liquor stores

Awaiting the fools who walk through her doors

Though beautifully packaged to catch your eyes

Behind each label is death in disguise

I now know what it was I lost back there

It was my childhood faith, Bible, and prayer

I still see Comfort everywhere I go

She beckons me come, but I must say no

By God’s grace, I must find my way back there

To my childhood faith, my Bible, and prayer.

RESPECTABILITY

December 21, 2012 by Ken Blue

halo

By Ken Blue

“He taketh the wise in their own craftiness…” Job 5:13

(By the grace of God, this is not my story. Sadly, it is the story of many)

There are some things I did, no one knew but me.

I kept my secret, and respectability.

I’d smoke in private; no one would ever see.

Now I have a lung disease; it’s called COPD.

My body is mine; I’ll do as I well please.

I drink now and then, nursing liver disease. 1 1

No one’s seen the track marks underneath my sleeve.

Getting high now and then, no one would believe.

Countless trips to rehab, free I cannot be.

I’ve kept my secret, and respectability.

She said she was pregnant, but no one could see.

Abort the fetus; no wiser will they be.

I’ve a nasty cold; it won’t let go of me.

My doctor informs me, that I have HIV.

But by craftiness, no one did ever see.

I fooled all, and maintained respectability.

I WILL NOT…

November 16, 2012 by Ken Blue

By Ken Blue

I’ll not boast of goodness, for I have none.

I’ll not speak of works, for they are but dung.

I’ll not vaunt tomorrow, how will it come?

I’ll boast of Jesus and what He has done.

I’ll not accept applause, for it is vain.

I’ll not excuse sin, there’s no one to blame.

I’ll not live for wealth, or for earthly gain.

I’ll live for Jesus and His holy name.

I’ll not kiss my hand, in its sinful state.

I’ll not stand up, but at His feet prostrate.

I’ll not admire self; what I do I hate.

I’ll trust Jesus and for His coming wait.

I’ll not feign perfection, for woe is me.

I’ll not rejoice, `till this body is free.

I’ll not be satisfied, `till Thy likeness I be.

I’ll confess this, my righteousness is Thee.
