THE FADING LEAF

April 1, 2010 by Ken Blue

(The General Store)

By Ken Blue

In early spring, within each bud, lie hopes of the unseen.
The earth awakes to a canopy of red, of yellow, and of green.
Summer passed; its beauty was captured and stored in my mind.
Winter came taking all away; memories only were left behind.

These abide in living color; they never fade away.
I joyfully replay each captured scene, reliving each yesterday.
By providence I returned, where I’d captured childhood scenes;
And discovered all had faded and died; nothing remains as it seemed.

People I remembered were not there; not a soul was in sight.
Buildings were decayed, all had faded away; briers now occupy their site.
And as I mused on what I saw, I sat in stark unbelief;
Reminded that living things must die; and we all do fade as a leaf.

Stores were all gone, no merchandise; only their ghosts remain,
Post Office and depot had disappeared; no children awaiting the train.
The school house upon the hill, where chatter and laughter rang;
Is now silent and cold, a monument only; nothing is the same.

My heart cried as I looked around, realizing all was gone.
Time had taken everything away, and only the memories lived on.
And as I relived those fleeting years, in a moment brief;
I realized winter comes to all, and we all do fade as a leaf.

“…and we all do fade as a leaf..”. Isaiah 64:6

THANK YOU LORD

March 26, 2010 by Ken Blue

By Ken Blue

Thank You for this land where freedom is the prize.
Thank You for those securing it, laying down their lives.
Thank You for liberty where dreams are realized.
For these, we thank You Lord!

Thank You for my family; children and wife.
Thank You for the joy and purpose they give to my life.
Thank You for helping us through all our daily strife.
For these, we thank you Lord!

Thank You for the water, the food, and the air.
Thank You for giving shelter and the clothing we wear.
Thank You for a pillow; I lay my head down there.
For these, we thank You Lord!

Thank You for using me in your ministry.
Thank You for making us more than we could ever be.
Thank You for the countless believers now serving Thee.
For these, we thank You Lord!

Thank You for the comforts, of another day.
Thank You for Your presence upon life’s pilgrim highway.
Thank You for Calvary’s love; what more can we say?
For these, we thank you Lord!

Thank You for Your Word, creating faith within.
Thank You for a sure hope that will never, never end.
Thank You for Your great love that paid for all our sin.
For these, we thank You Lord.

AN EARLY REMINDER

November 10, 2009 by Ken Blue

By Ken Blue

I awake every morning with the rising of the sun.
My purpose is to announce that a new day has begun.
Many are pleased with my work; every day they count on me.
They arise and going forth; they meet that day’s destiny.

I am sure I annoy some, who wish that I’d be quiet,
But God has programmed me to proclaim the approaching light.
My familiar voice never changes; always sounding the same.
But God can use it differently; His message to proclaim.

Was a morning like all others; the day had just begun,
And little did I know, I would be serving God’s dear Son.
Twice, I made proclamation; remaining silent I kept,
For somewhere in the darkest night, poor Simon Peter wept.

I have added purpose now, though my duties are routine.
I’m still announcing the morning light with its coming beams.
I am also a reminder, to each before they start,
Not to boast about today, for no one can know his heart.

“And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept.” Mark 13:72.

THE LITTLE RED PILL

October 14, 2009 by Ken Blue

By Ken Blue

I went to the doctor; I was feeling ill.
He wrote a prescription for a little red pill.
He said, “Take one of these, as pains begin;
And if it returns, you may take another again.”

I took the pills as instructed above;
And in just a few months, we were deeply in love.
Now I looked forward to each new day;
And the little red pills that take my pain away.

I think the pills are unfaithful to me;
Little by little, serious changes I see.
I said to the doctor, “What is the deal?”
He answered me firmly, “It’s the little red pill.”

So, I cut her loose, no more pills for me.
They ask me how I did it; I said “cold turkey.”
Life is full of it hurts, and pains, and ills;
But the answer may not be in little red pills.

Be careful of choices in life you make,
Of the roads that you choose and the paths you may take.
God may be speaking to you when you’re ill;
So be wary of friendship with the little red pill.

ISRAEL’S RESTORATION

October 13, 2009 by Ken Blue

By Ken Blue
Ezekiel 37

Israel has been scattered throughout the distant lands;
Yet, retaining their identity amid the shifting sands.

God has promised them, through prophets, visions, and signs,
Restoration to their homeland in His appointed times.

Ezekiel was brought to a valley and there made to sit down,
And musing on the Word of God began to look around.

Lifeless bodies everywhere, scattered, bleached and dry;
And listening to the Spirit’s call; he heard their cry.

In their despair and miseries, alleged all hope was gone;
Unmindful of God’s promises; once again to bring them home.

They saw themselves divided, cut off from all parts;
Forgetting prophecies of a New Birth and of their new hearts.

So Ezekiel, he prophesied, to the dry bones and the wind;
And a mighty army arose and stood upon its feet again.

Returning in unbelief to their Promised Land;
Their Scriptures He will open to them, and they will understand.

From a valley of dry bones, to the valley of decision;
Israel will be united there with no more division.

Returning to their Lord, He will then set them free,
And in their land, serving Jesus Christ through all eternity.
