PROCEDURE

1 a : a particular way of accomplishing something or of acting  b : a step in a procedure. 2 a : a series of steps followed in a regular definite order *legal procedure* *a surgical procedure*  b :  : a traditional or established way of doing things  b : PROTOCOL”

Pastor, do you have a clearly defined procedure on how your church is going to reach young families, and the steps you will take after they profess to trust Christ?  Is this procedure in writing and on your calendar? Are your staff members and church leaders aware of it? If ask, could they clearly state your purpose statement and assimilation procedures? If not, guess who dropped the ball?

The definition of a procedure is stated above, and is clear. It means you have an established way of accomplishing the assimilation of families into your church and the ministry for Christ. It is a series of steps. Are those steps clearly defined, and is each one well planned and implemented?

In the matter of bringing families from spiritual infancy to spiritual maturity, there a four steps that must be clearly defined and employed. 1. You should have a class every four months for new members. This class is a requirement for membership, and teaches what your church is all about. Each class should take three to four hours to teach. 2. Four months later, there should be a class on how to study the Bible and grow in your new life. 3. four months later, a class should be taught on how and where one might serve the Lord in the local church. 4. Finally, four months later, a class should be taught on how to commit one’s life to God’s will for their life.

Any pastor, sincere about the things we have stated above, should contact Pastor Murphy at Open Door. He said, on Easter weekend they had, “20 people to accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior, we had over 100 visitors…”

IN THE GOOD OLD SUMMER TIME

August 17, 2011 by Ken Blue

As many of you know, Open Door Baptist Church, led by Pastor Jason Murphy, had a total of 700 in attendance on the 4th of July weekend. There were 127 first time visitors who filled out visitor cards. In order that you might understand their work was more than a “flash in the pan,” the following was sent to me byPastorMurphy.

“Sunday, Aug. 7 at 4pm we held our third set of “Foundation classes” for this year. These classes help with guiding our new adults in spiritual growth and educating them as new believers and teaching them what it means to be a member of Open Door Baptist church.  In our “Membership” class we had 26 new people join the church.  And a total of 70 people went thru the discipleship classes on Aug 7th Praise the Lord!”

“Our people still take their family vacations, but the ministry moves on and people are getting saved and growing inChrist, I’m very excited for this fall we are having a Sunday school challenge – I’m challenging all our adults to try one of our 10 classes for four weeks. Sunday school was important in my spiritual growth and so I know it’s a vital thing if you want to “grow” spiritually and build relationships with other Christians.”

I challenge all the young pastors to contact Pastor Murphyand glean from his experience. Your great sermons will not increase the attendance at your church. There are key things you must also do. You can reach Pastor Murphyat: http://www.opendoorbaptist.com/.  It can be done, even in the good old summer time!

WHAT IS LEADERSHIP?

June 23, 2011 by Ken Blue

THE POSITION OF LEADERSHIP

leadership

By Ken Blue

The American Heritage Dictionary says leadership is, “1. The position or office of a leader: 2. Capacity or ability to lead.” You will notice that one is a position and the other is capacity. It is possible to have the position of leadership without the capacity to lead. Or, one may possess the capacity and not have the position.

There is a world of difference between position and capacity. One may be promoted to a position of leadership such as in a military or government job without possessing the capacity. However, those under his leadership must comply or pay the price. This same situation may exist in large cooperation, but it is not as prevalent.

However, church leadership is altogether different. The pastor does not possess leadership qualities because of his possession. This is one reason many churches cannot grow. The pastor must have the capacity to lead. No one follows because they are required to. Ninety-five percent of church work is done by volunteers. There must be other factors that influence people to follow the pastor. Leaders have followers. If no one is following, you are just taking a walk.

A few misconceptions about leadership: Position of office, telling others what to do, being the loudmouth of the group, or having the prominent position. None of which will work for long.

There are three imperatives of leadership and they are the same in the secular or the sacred. One of these qualities is personality. The more people you can relate to, the more influence you can have. We know many who lead from the strength of personality. The second quality needed is aptitude. The better you are at your vocation, the more people are apt to follow you. So, learn all you can about your calling. Learn from the greatest in that field. Read all you can on how to improve your vocational skills. People are reluctant to follow those who are unsure of what they are doing.

Finally, to have a lasting influence in leadership, you must be a man or woman of character. Of the three, your character is most important. People will not follow a person they cannot trust. What is it that exposes your lack of character? It will usually be your mouth. Therefore, be slow to speak and swift to hear.

OPEN DOOR BAPTIST, PASTOR MURPHY, AND THE GRACE OF GOD DID IT AGAIN!

September 7, 2010 by Ken Blue

By Ken Blue

Hey Pastor! Sunday, August 29th, Open Door Baptist had 2 professions of faith, 21 people joined the church, 14 baptisms, 27 visitors, 540 in attendance and 51 people to take the 101-401 disciple class! God continues to bless in an unusual way under the leadership of Pastor Murphy. This growth continued right through the summer months.

If you are tired of the same old negative hash, the axe grinding, the hobbyhorses, and the hairsplitting, you need to contact Pastor Murphy for some practical help on what they are doing to reach people and get them enrolled in their discipleship ministry.

Your church can grow if you have a vision, desire, and proper information on how to reach people. Someone has said, “Where there is no vision, the people perish, and where there are no people, the vision perishes.”

Pastor Murphy can be reached at: http://www.opendoorbaptist.com/index.asp.
