Several fallacies surround the idea that the text determines the sermon. It does not. For example, if you are going to preach a wedding, you already know the occasion and the subject. You now search for a text to support the event. The same is true with the funeral. You begin your search for a text you feel appropriately supports your purpose. When you preselect a topic to teach, you then search for scripture to support it. In each case, the event or topic dictates the scripture you will use.
Almost every sermon by Dr. Jack Hyles was a topical message. It would be difficult to find a sermon by the great Charles Spurgeon that is not topical in nature. The 500 sermons by DeWitt Talmage are all topical. Most of the messages by the prophets, by the Lord Jesus and by the Apostle Paul were topical. So, the assumption that the best method is the verse by verse expository method will not stand the test of Scripture.

Having said that, let us not assume that book studies or expository preaching should be neglected. They should not. I believe every book in the Bible should be taught and preaches. Doctrinal and word studies are important. The problem facing many pastors is that they have not learned how to make these studies relevant and helpful to the believers or the lost. They are dispensers of information but not agents of transformation.

When preaching books of the Bible, it best to look at the paragraphs within the chapter and then seek for the one point the Holy Spirit is teaching. The topic should be extracted from the paragraph; the surrounding verses will support your topic and purpose for the message.

Some books do not lend themselves to the above method. Two of these are Leviticus and Proverbs. When dealing with books like these, it is best to look for a topic and then cross-reference to other passages within the book to support the topic or subject.

For the beginning pastor, it is best to choose the smaller books to teach. Stay out of the deep waters until you learn to swim. Don’t be a parrot, simply regurgitating what others have said. Before you study for your sermon, pray and ask God to show you things He wants you to emphasize. The average preacher is preaching in the third person, at people, not to them. What I mean is, he stands before others telling them about people and events that have no relevance, significance or bearing on their daily lives.

As you can see, the text may or may not determine the sermon. If one chooses the topical method only, people will not understand the structure and dispensational nature of God’s Word. So, mix it up. Unless a pastor has mastered the expository method of preaching, he must take care, least he become too “teachy” and stunt the growth of his members and membership growth.

THE HOAX OF MARY’S ASSUMPTION

May 31, 2016 by Ken Blue

MARY’S ASSUMPTION

Mary's AssumptionMary’s assumption is never mentioned in the King James Bible, or any Catholic Bible for that matter.  This is purely a rogue Catholic teaching.

I have before me “The Fundamentals of Catholic Dogma,” (P, 208-209) written by the Catholic church.  It became a Catholic church law on November 1, 1950.  Concerning the Mary’s Assumption, it says, “Direct and scriptural proof are not to be had.  …from Luke 1:28.” It further says, “Scholastic theology derives the bodily assumption and glorification of Mary.”

Their own writings and laws readily admit that they have no Scriptural proof for Mary’s Assumption.  Yet, based on “Scholastic Theology” only, they have millions of people worshipping Mary rather than Jesus Christ our King.

There’s your proof!

ISRAEL’S FIVE SUCCESSIONS OF PUNISHMENT

May 29, 2016 by Ken Blue

THE FIFTH SUCCESSION OF ISRAEL’S PUNISHMENT

punishment

The fifth succession of Israel’s punishments is found in Lev. 26:27-39. The fifth succession begins with the Assyrian/Babylonian captivities, (Some believe it began with Egypt,) and continues until the Second Advent of Christ, which ends the “times of the Gentiles” and the Day of the Lord. (Tribulation.) All the curses in Leviticus 26:27-39 will be found from the captivities until the Second Advent.

As one reads these warnings and promises, he cannot help but be appalled. We post them here. “And if ye will not for all this hearken unto me, but walk contrary unto me;  Then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins.  And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat.  And I will destroy your high places, and cut down your images, and cast your carcases upon the carcases of your idols, and my soul shall abhor you.  And I will make your cities waste, and bring your sanctuaries unto desolation, and I will not smell the savour of your sweet odours.  And I will bring the land into desolation: and your enemies which dwell therein shall be astonished at it.  And I will scatter you among the heathen, and will draw out a sword after you: and your land shall be desolate, and your cities waste.  Then shall the land enjoy her sabbaths, as long as it lieth desolate, and ye be in your enemies’ land; even then shall the land rest, and enjoy her sabbaths.  As long as it lieth desolate it shall rest; because it did not rest in your sabbaths, when ye dwelt upon it.  And upon them that are left alive of you I will send a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies; and the sound of a shaken leaf shall chase them; and they shall flee, as fleeing from a sword; and they shall fall when none pursueth.  And they shall fall one upon another, as it were before a sword, when none pursueth: and ye shall have no power to stand before your enemies.  And ye shall perish among the heathen, and the land of your enemies shall eat you up.  And they that are left of you shall pine away in their iniquity in your enemies’ lands; and also in the iniquities of their fathers shall they pine away with them.” Leviticus 26:27-39.

Most of these are behind them and can be found in those books which cover this period. As one reads the book of Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations and Ezekiel, he can see the unbelievable misery Israel endured. However, Jesus warns Israel the worst is yet to come upon them.

In Matthew 24 Jesus describes some of the things the Jews can expect in the Day of the Lord. “For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.  And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.” Matthew 24:21-22. The end of this fifth succession of punishments on Israel will be worse than all that has preceded it. In fact, if those days were not limited to the seven year period, no Jew would be left alive. The Bible tells us that only one third of the Jews will survive the Tribulation. As the wickedness of Israel exceed the nations around them, so is it now and will be through the Tribulation. Israel is give the name, Sodom and Egypt in the Revelation. God’s two witnesses will be killed by the unbelieving Jews and their dead bodies will be left in the street to rot. The corrupt city is designated, “And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.” Revelation 11:8.

God’s fury and wrath will allow their Gentile enemies to slaughter them until only one third remains. “And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.  And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God.” Zechariah 13:8-9.

Jesus will lead this third in battle and defeat all the nation that come up against Israel. “Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem.  And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.  In that day, saith the LORD, I will smite every horse with astonishment, and his rider with madness: and I will open mine eyes upon the house of Judah, and will smite every horse of the people with blindness.  And the governors of Judah shall say in their heart, The inhabitants of Jerusalem shall be my strength in the LORD of hosts their God.  In that day will I make the governors of Judah like an hearth of fire among the wood, and like a torch of fire in a sheaf; and they shall devour all the people round about, on the right hand and on the left: and Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place, even in Jerusalem.  The LORD also shall save the tents of Judah first, that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem do not magnify themselves against Judah.  In that day shall the LORD defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and he that is feeble among them at that day shall be as David; and the house of David shall be as God, as the angel of the LORD before them.” Zechariah 12:2-8. Thus, the five succession of punishment will end. (Leviticus 26:14-39).

This remnant will repent and accept Jesus as their Messiah King. The reign of the Gentiles over Israel will end forever. Jesus will begin to organize and establish His Kingdom of Heaven on earth.

ALL WILL FIND THEIR MATE

May 25, 2016 by Ken Blue

NOT ONE BIBLE PROPHECY WILL LACK THEIR MATE.

mateIsaiah 34:16…… Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them.

In this video sermon Dr. Blue teaches us how God works through His book, the bible.  He shows us how important reading and living by the Bible is.  Explaining the uniqueness of the Bible, he encourages and admonishes us to keep in this most basic building block of the Christian life.  Not only does it reveal salvation’s plan, but it shows how important it is because it holds specific prophecies that are looking for their fulfillment.

In Isa 34:16 God tells us to: “Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read…”.  Dr. Blue explains how amongst all of the false translations, God’s book needs to be sought out. This unfortunate situation exists because the Devil attacks the foundation of Christianity.  This way, he can completely destroy a Christian by making him collapse without a foundation to stand on.  That foundation is the Bible.  Since the Devil cannot be rid of God’s book, he confuses everyone by flooding the market with many alternatives for the Christian to choose from.  Some have subtle differences, while others are vast.  Buying a different bible is not a wickedness, it is an act of ignorance.  The book og the Lord must be sought out.

Modern scholarship tries to tell you that at one time there was a complete bible, but today there is none.  The Bible says that there IS a book that is called the Book of God and God promised to preserve it (Psalms 12:6-7)  Since we believe that God is much stronger than any scholar, we do not let the scholars tell us what the Bible says.  We use the Bible to tell us about the scholars.

[pullquote align=”right” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]The major evil in professing Christianity is the neglect of the reading of the Word of God.[/pullquote]

There is a book that is perfect.  Gen 5:1; Deu. 17:18; Psa 40:7  If God reveals his word to us it is most logical to reveal it in a book. People have been taught that all Bibles contain the word of God but this is not true.  Sewers may contain a dime but that doesn’t make it a bank. The Bible was written to be read and many Christians neglect reading it.  The major evil in professing Christianity is the neglect of the reading of the Word of God.  People are not changed without the changing of their minds.  Self help and psychology books will not help.  Reading the Bible is the only thing that will help.  The Greatest Christians who ever lived said that no good thing dwelt in them.
