MY NAME IS BARABBAS

May 2, 2011 by Ken Blue

By Ken Blue

From my window here below, upon Golgotha’s hill I see,

Three crosses standing tall, and the center one is there  for me.

I never thought a day of judgment like this would ever come.

I evaded all pursuers; I was always on the run.

Mine was a life of sin; while creating both renown and fame.

People heard from far and  near and said, “Barabbas is his name.”

There is turmoil in the city over one called Jesus Christ.

That’s unimportant to me now; tomorrow I pay my price.

It’s morning light and in the door I hear the skeleton key.

The executioner has surly come; he has come for me.

He takes me to an iron gate, there inserting another key.

As the gate open’s wide he says, “You may go now, you are free.”

I stand in frozen disbelief at what I’m hearing and see.

For someone is on the cross, the very one that was for me.

Many years have come and gone, I remember His battered face,

And now I fully understand, He willingly took my place.

There is an empty cell below; the captive is now set free.

There’s an empty cross on the hill; redemption blood has paid the fee.

There’s an empty tomb in the garden; death cannot hold its prey.

There was emptiness in my heart, but He’s filling it today.

He freely opened the prisoner’s gate; His cross, the only key.

He says to all who come to Him, “You may go now, you are free.”

I WISH I’D DONE THAT

April 17, 2011 by Ken Blue

My little boy came running in to show me a bug he’d found.
I was too busy with my own affairs just to turn around.
I wish I’d done that.

Another son came rushing home to tell of the game and score
But I was busy with my own things just like the times before.
I wish I’d done that.

I put my little girl in bed, she said, “daddy, let us pray.”
I said, “It’s getting late sweetheart, tomorrow’s a busy day.”
I wish I’d done that.

I spent five years in Bible College, working both day and night.
I had little time for wife or children; or to hold them tight.
I wish I’d done that.

My beloved mother said to me, “I love you,” every day.
I did not respond in kind to her, and now she’s gone away.
I wish I’d done that.

There are many pilgrims struggling along on life’s rocky road.
I could have shared a helpful hand, lightening their heavy load.
I wish I’d done that.

A man asked me of salvation and what it was all about.
“I must rush to a meeting; I’ll find someone to help you out.”
I wish I’d done that.

Its judgment time for me now, I find much wood, stubble, and hay.
The opportunities that I had are burned and drift away.
I wish I’d done that.

And now I say, to friends and family as we approach the line,
I love you, and I wanted to tell you while there was still time.
I’m glad I did that.

WEALTH AND POVERTY

March 9, 2011 by Ken Blue

By Ken Blue

“Life is tragic for a man who has plenty to live on, but nothing to live for.”

Proverbs 30:7-9

Two things I request before I die; remove from me vanity, and temptations to lie.

.Give the portion that was ordained for me, lest I forget that it was provided through Thee.

Idleness and fullness is a fatal disease, cured by thankfulness while on our knees.

Teach me patients as I wait on Thee; in whatever situation I’m contented to be.

You have been my provider through all these years; therefore will I trust Thee while having no fears.

AN OLD MULE

February 4, 2011 by Ken Blue

            By Ken Blue

I saw an old mule standing right there, always in the same old place.

I’m no authority, but the story was clearly on his face.

So I stopped the car and climbed the fence to the place where he was at.

I can tell by the look on your face that we need to have a chat.

He didn’t acknowledge I was there, by movement of eye or ear.

So, I moved closer, and said some things I thought he needed to hear.

You need to remember when you were young; secure at mother’s side.

You ran and played the games young mules play, being filled with youthful pride.

Then one day a farmer came by, choosing you to work in his field.

You shared the news with other mules, and your excitement they too did feel.

You pulled the plow straight, leaving a furrow in each purposeful track.

Your eyes were fixed on the goal ahead; you never, ever looked back.

Think of the millions who have been fed because you pulled that old plow.

And as we talk, every last grain is producing somewhere right now.

A neighbor drove by and he slowed down; saw me talking to that mule.

He turned to his wife and he said, I always thought Blue was a fool.

As we finished, his chin quivered; a twinkle was in his eye.

I felt I had helped a little bit; it was time to say goodbye.

So, don’t despair over years gone by, if you can no longer plow.

Be thankful for those fruitful days and God’s abundant grace right now.

THE BLAME GAME

January 5, 2011 by Ken Blue

 By Ken Blue

And the LORD God said unto the woman, “What is this that thou hast done?” And the woman said, “The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.”

To deal with sin just lie and deceive,
And do like Adam; blame it on Eve.
Or you may, like Eve, the Devil blame,
Quoting his promise in the Lord’s name.

Aaron was weak and such a disgrace;
Made a calf of gold; God to replace.
His excuse was both, lame and feeble,
Laying the blame on all the people.

Now, old King Saul never took the blame;
Could find someone and fill in his name.
Was told to destroy both man and beast,
But brought them home “for the Lord a feast.”

Satan blamed God for Job’s righteous stand.
Said Job was not the best in the land.
Said God blessed him just to get his praise.
Take all away, You’ll discover his ways.

Now, there’s only two, how can that be?
Why don’t I blame you and you blame me?
Don’t worry, others, they do the same.
You see, that’s how you play the blame game.
