DEFERRED DOOMSDAY DUE FRIDAY — OR NOT

DOOMSDAY DEFERRED OR NOT?

By Ian O’Neill

Published October 18, 2011 | Discovery News   Print  Email  Share AP

The Doomsday Clock is shown in 1998.

On Friday, Oct. 21, 2011, the Rapture will be upon us. That’s according to U.S. Christian broadcaster Harold Camping anyway.

Yes, that’s the same Mr.Camping who “predicted” doom on May 21. But, as far as I’m aware, we’re still here. So, Oct. 21 is the new Rapture. Right.

Postponing doomsday is not uncommon amongst doomsayers (religious or otherwise), especially when the original day of doom doesn’t happen. And for Camping, “Doomsday Deferral” seems to be a fun trick he likes to play. He did, after all, also predict doomsday in 1994.

Countless people have predicted countless end-of-the-world scenarios — and the planet’s still here, fortunately. We look back at some of the wackiest forecasts.

ANALYSIS: Doomsdays: Dubious and Deferred. So, how did the ailing 90-year old explain away May 21?

On May 22, an obviously shocked Camping emerged from his home to say he was “flabbergasted” that the Rapture stood him up. But then, a couple of days later, like all good doomsday prophets, he had an answer: May 21 was just the beginning; the Rapture would take a lot longer; the real Rapture will happen five months later on Oct. 21.

“What really happened this past May 21st?” Camping asks on his Family Radio website. “What really happened is that God accomplished exactly what He wanted to happen. That was to warn the whole world that on May 21 God’s salvation program would be finished on that day.”

Basically, “Applications for Salvation” closed on May 21. You see, even the Office of God has red tape.

ANALYSIS: Doomsdays That Never Happened

After saying something about earthquakes shaking mankind … and that the Bible refers to “earth … as people as well as ground,” (roughly translated as people, as well as the ground, were shaken) … somehow there was a lot of shaken people on May 21…?

Regardless, it’s unlikely we would have experienced anything because it was “an invisible judgment day.” Clever. A subtle Judgment Day.

Unfortunately, though Camping’s predictions are clearly based on an overhyped religious belief — that mainstream Christians think are bunk, by the way — he has a hardcore group of supporters that have sold their houses to pay for touring the U.S. in RVs, “spreading the word” of one delusional religious leader.

I have bent, pulled and prodded every single doomsday theory, and have yet to find a single thread of proof that we could ever predict one of them happening in 2012. In fact, many of the theories (like a marauding Planet X or spontaneous polar shift) are fundamentally flawed or completely fabricated.

At best, Camping is delusional and enjoys the attention, at worst — like many doomsayers that have a book to sell — it’s about money and fear.

THE RAPTURE OF THE SAVED

THE RAPTURE IN THE BIBLE

By Ken Blue

We are not shaken or disturbed by the scoffers. Their unbelief and scoffing mean nothing to us. I must place my faith in their unbelief or in the infallible Word of God; I choose the latter. The rapture is a Bible truth and will happen in God’s appointed time.

The word rapture nowhere appears in Scripture, but the truth is everywhere. It means to be caught up or away. “ But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this, we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.” 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18. “Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 15:51-57.

There are several raptures in scripture.

  1. The first that is recorded is that of Enoch. (Gen. 5:24; Heb. 11:5.)
  2. Elijah. (2 Kings 2:11).
  3. Jesus. (Acts 1:9,10.)
  4. Paul. (2 Cor. 12:2,3.)
  5. The church. (1 Thess. 4:13.)
  6. The 144,000. (Rev. 14:2.)

There is no question about the teaching of the Bible; the rapture is a Scriptural truth. So, let not your heart be troubled. No one knows when the rapture of the church will happen, but you can be sure it will. You must get ready by trusting Jesus Christ as your Savior. See Romans 10:9-13 for answers.

NOW, ABOUT THE END OF THE WORLD

May 23, 2011 by Ken Blue

END OF AN AGE OR END OF THE WORLD

By Ken Blue

“And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?” Matthew 24:3.

The reader must understand that the four gospels are not written to, or about the church, the body of Christ. They concern Israel and the Old Testament promises of Israel’s: Kingdom of Heaven on earth, which will be ruled by Jesus Christ from Jerusalem. This is what is meant in the Lord’s Prayer, “Thy Kingdom come…”

The question in the above text is not about the end of the world or the destruction of planet earth. The word “world” comes from the Greek αἰών which means eon or age. The current age began after the flood of Noah and will continue until the Millennium. That is the “age to come” spoken of in Hebrews 6:5. The disciples are not asking about or concerned when the earth would be destroyed. They want to know when the present age would end, and the new age with His Kingdom would be established in Israel.

The Lord gives His disciples a list of signs that will be present in the days preceding the end of the age. Most of these are found in Matthew 24. It is important that we understand that the Lord is talking about things that concern the nation of Israel and those nations that seek to destroy them. (See Matthew 24:24. Mark 13:22. 2 Peter 2:1. 1 John 4:1. Rev. 16:13; 20:10.)

The age that will follow this present one will last another 1000 years, and then the earth is burned up. See Revelation 20:1-7. This is what Peter is speaking of in 2 Peter 3:10. The word for the earth there is a different Greek word and speaks of the literal planet.

So, believers should not concern themselves with the “end of the world.” It is at least one thousand and seven years down the road. What we should do is pray for Israel, pray for others, and make sure we are saved. Let not your heart be troubled. God’s program is right on schedule. However, we are to be on guard. “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works. 2 Corinthians 11:13-15.

If you are saved, the signs of the end of the age should excite you because it means the rapture of the church is that much closer. Look up and don’t give up.

FALSE PROPHETS AND THE RAPTURE

RaptureBy Ken Blue
On my blog, dated March 5th, I ask the question “Is Harold Camping a False Prophet?” The following is a correspondence between me, and one of Camping’s followers. I ask a simple question, which Mr. “A” was not willing to answer. I post it here so you can see the mindset of this group.

Mr. A: April 18th, 2011 at 2:09 pm. Harold Camping came from a Reformed background. The Rapture cannot happen before May 21, 2011. It shall happen on May 21, 2011, as determined from the Bible. The date for the creation of the earth is 11013 BC. The flood, according to a better understanding of the Bible, did occur in 4990 BC. Yes, the church age ended on May 21, 1988. Scoffers and mockers of Harold Camping can be confused “Christians” such as Ken Blue as well as atheists.

Ken Blue: April 18th, 2011 at 2:32 pm. One thing was noticeably missing from your dates and comments. You did not give or offer one verse of Scriptural proof for your comments. The reason is obvious, you don’t have any. I don’t need to follow Camping to be saved, or believe in the rapture of the church. Camping is a false prophet, and that has already been established. If the rapture does not happen on May 21, I hope you will be Christian enough to contact me and admit Camping is a false prophet and that you were wrong. You should have enough grace to do that. Right?

Mr. A: April 18th, 2011 at 6:31 pm. Anyone desiring biblical evidence for dates and prophecies can investigate literature of Family Radio (Family Stations Inc.) No one can purchase literature from Family Radio. Literature is available online or hard copy, free of charge. Mr. Camping is an unpaid volunteer for Family Radio. He has no financial ties to Family Stations Inc.

Ken Blue: April 19th, 2011 at 10:53 pm. Dear Anonymous, I have read Mr. Camping’s writings and the Bible, and that is how I came to the conclusion that he is indeed a false prophet. My response was for you to give Scripture proving his prophecies. You did not. I ask if you would be Christian enough to contact me and admit that Camping is a false prophet if the rapture does not happen May 21, 2011 and that you were wrong to believe him. You did not answer the question. Do you have an “ace up your sleeve” just in case Camping is wrong? I bet you do.

Mr. A: April 20th, 2011 at 12:51 am. Mr. Blue, Mr. Camping did not claim with absolute certainty that 1994 would be the time of the end. The title of his book had a question mark after 1994. You haven’t proved that Mr. Camping is a false prophet. And please identify which writings of Mr. Camping that you have read. Do you have questions about a scripture which you think Mr. Camping is understanding incorrectly?

Ken Blue: April 20th, 2011 at 1:54 am. Dear Mr. Anonymous, as I supposed, you have been holding aces up your sleeve, and you have some more. Mr. Camping did say the rapture would take place in 1994, and if you don’t know that, you have not read his book. Also, I don’t have to prove that he is a false prophet he has done that himself and is about to do it again. You sure have a difficult time answering the same question I have presented in both contacts. There is something wrong with you when you are afraid to give an answer to the question and then attempt to put me on the defensive. It won’t work. You are not sure the rapture will occur on the date predicted or you would be bold and come forth with a straight answer. You keep those aces up your sleeve; you’re going to need to play them after the twenty-first of next month.

Mr. A: April 20th, 2011 at 10:11 am. Mr. Burns, What is your question?

Ken Blue: April 20th, 2011 at 2:34 pm. Come on, Ace; you know my question. It was in my first and second response to you. Go to your first response to my web page and you will see your comment and my question.

Mr. A. April 21st, 2011 at 5:35 am. “May The Lord Find Us Faithful”………..By Mac Lynch
God has not given us the spirit of fear,
But has given us the strength to obey.
With power and sound mind, with love the unfailing kind,
Oh, be not a-shamed of His way.

[perfectpullquote align=”right” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]There was no response from Mr. A afterward[/perfectpullquote]

[Chorus]

May the Lord find us faithful,
May His word be our banner held high
May the Lord find us faithful,
Everyday tho’ we live tho’ we die.

No man that seeketh after things of this life,
Is a soldier, who passes the test.
Be faithful, be working, be running, be serving,
Be searching His word for His best.

Living or dying may honor be Thine
From this wretched life, You loved and forgave.
A life that’s on fire, be only our heart’s desire,
Be faithful from now to the grave

Ken Blue: April 21st, 2011 at 8:47 am. Ace, based on your last response, I must assume you really do not remember my question, or you are simply playing another one. The question was, “If the rapture does not happen on May 21, I hope you will be Christian enough to contact me and admit Camping is a false prophet and that you were wrong. You should have enough grace to do that. Right?” Is there some reason you fear to give a yes or no answer. If the rapture takes place, and you are saved, you won’t have to answer. If it does not you should boldly step forward and admit you were misled and Camping is a false prophet. There is nothing difficult to understand about the question. However, your reluctance to answer is, reveals that you are not honest.

There was no response from Mr. A afterward.

THE ADVANTAGE AND DISADVANTAGE OF RECEIVING THE MARK OF THE BEAST

October 26, 2010 by Ken Blue

THINGS TO PONDER ABOUT THE MARK OF THE BEAST

By Ken Blue

“And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.” Revelation 13:16-17.

The world of technology has arrived at a place, that not even the unbeliever would doubt the possibility of an implanted chip capable of containing everything about you from your DNA to your shopping habits. I believe that day is upon us, and it will be an easy sell to those who receive it. In fact, some form of universal identification will seem to be the most sensible thing to do, considering the state of the world.

Here are some advantages of receiving the mark:

  1. You will be able to buy food if it is available.
  2. You won’t get lost. The chip will have a built-in tracking system.
  3. You never have to worry about someone stealing your identity.
  4. Society will be cashless; you won’t have to worry about someone robbing you.
  5. All medical records will be on the chip. This will make universal health care more accessible to you.
  6. You won’t have to worry about bank records. Your allotment will be automatically credited to your chip number.
  7. You won’t need credit cards or cash, scanners will automatically subtract from your account.
  8. There will be no need for greed since this new system will “give to everyone according to their needs, and demand from everyone according to their ability.”

The disadvantage of receiving the mark:

  1. You go to hell!
  2. See number one!

“And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.” Revelation 14:9-11.
