JOSEPH, THE SERVANT

JOSEPH, THE SERVANT

SLAVERYBy Ken Blue

“He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant: Psalms 105:17.

If I were to sum up the life of Joseph, it would be, “He was a good man and full of the Holy Ghost.” Joseph was a son who was deeply loved by his aged father and was destined by God for future greatness. However, before the greatness could be manifested, the testing of time must do its refining work. “Until the time that his word came: the word of the LORD tried him.” Psalms 105:19.

Joseph was a godly young man, and he was sent to do his father’s bidding. His brothers hated him, and as a result of their envy, they sold him into slavery to Pharaoh. However, because of his commitment, he faithfully served God and his Egyptian master. His servitude and attitude did not go unnoticed by Pharaoh, and he was entrusted as his chief attendant. Nevertheless, his loyalty and godly character was once again rewarded by deceit and lies. Pharaoh’s wife falsely accused Joseph of sexual advances, thus Joseph was locked away in prison; but God was with him.

The keeper of the prison saw the honesty and goodness of Joseph and put him in charge of the prisoners. Two prisoners dreamed dreams which Joseph correctly interpreted. Three days later the interpretation came to pass. Joseph asked the butler to remember him and speak to Pharaoh on his behalf. The butler forgot him and said nothing. So, Joseph spent two more years in prison for a crime he never committed. He was tested a total of thirteen years before he was promoted to perform God’s purpose!

In addition to Joseph’s ability to interpret Pharaohs dream, we see him display great patience as he suffers for righteousness. He never complains nor displays one moment of bitterness, and when he speaks, he shows wonderful compassion for others. He was loyal to his master. He refused to sin against man or his God. Through it all, he patiently serves and waits on God.

You know the purpose and outcome. God used Joseph to save and care for a seed that would become a great nation, through which the whole world will be saved and blessed. God may not have as lofty a goal for you or me, but rest assured, God does have a plan for you. Scripture is clear, the greater the task, the greater the test. So, cheer up Christian, your greatest days of service may still be ahead.

MS. RATCHET JAW

MS. RATCHET JAW
      By Ken Blue

I encountered a lady the other day
Her verbosity left me in a daze
I tried to say a word, but would not be heard
She blasted me with every verbal phrase

She’d ask me a question and answer it quickly
She had no time for silence or pause
I said; as I held my head
“There’s something wrong with her jaws!”

A sky scraper was burning across the street
A mother and child leaped to their death
But, Ms. Ratchet Jaw never saw,
Nor did she stop to take a breath

Al-Qaeda bombed the Twin Towers
The buildings came tumbling down
But she was on a roll and would not be told
“It’s time to get out of town!”

Black clouds gathering in the sky
A freeze blew in on the wind
But Ms. Racket Jaw waited for the thaw
And started all over again

In one day I learned world history,
Wind velocity and criminal law
And she was unaware that I was even there,
And I learned it all from Ms. Ratchet Jaw

Some are predestined to listen
Others, predestined to talk
So if you’re inclined toward peace of mind
Beware with whom you walk

LIFE IS UNFAIR

LIFE IS UNFAIR
By Ken Blue

“Life is unfair” I heard a mother say,
As she placed her lifeless infant ‘neath the cold indifferent clay

“Life is unfair” an abandoned wife groaned,
As she clutched the letter to her heart while standing all alone

“Life is unfair” said a student not chosen for the team,
While others reach the top through their shrewd and cunning schemes

“Life is unfair” said a prisoner in his cell,
As greater injustice went unchecked inside his living hell

“Life is unfair” said a child with tearful eyes so sad,
As the court divided his life between his mom and dad

“Life is unfair” said a minority in a foreign land,
As others got the better jobs and the helping hand

“Life is unfair” the Heavenly Father explained,
“Adam made a willful choice and My Words he profaned”

Life is unfair while Satan rules and reigns,
Where death, heartache and misery fill his domain

“Life is unfair” will cease to be the cry,
When Jesus reigns on earth with his kingdom from on high

FORWARD AND BACKWARD

April 26, 2009 by Ken Blue

NO ONE LOOKED FORWARD TO THE CROSS

Looking ForwardBy Ken Blue

“Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished. 32 For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on: 33 And they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again. 34 And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken.” Luke 18:31-34.

Most Christians think that, prior to Jesus’ death, Old Testament believers looked forward to the cross and those of us on this side looked back. However, that is only a half truth. Any honest believer must admit that none of the twelve disciples were looking forward to Jesus’ death on the cross or to His resurrection; neither were the women who went to the tomb to embalm His dead body. Notice the above verses, and you will see that verse 34 is the key. “And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken.” You can read. Do you think the Twelve preached the death, burial and resurrection of Christ in any fashion for three and one-half years when they didn’t understand one thing about His coming death? In fact, no one looked forward to Christ’s death.

[perfectpullquote align=”right” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]The only gospel preached, prior to Paul, was the gospel of the Kingdom of Heaven.[/perfectpullquote]

The only gospel preached, prior to Paul, was the gospel of the Kingdom of Heaven. The content of that gospel was: believe the message about the coming Messiah, repent of your sins, be baptized and remain faithful to the end. I am confident that many of the brethren will have a cardiac arrest over this, but the stubborn facts must replace centuries of tradition. It is true; we look back to the cross where Jesus died for our sins and accept His death, burial and resurrection for sin as our substitute. However, no one prior to the cross looked forward to that event for their personal salvation, even though His death is found in type and prophecy all through the Scriptures.

HELL

April 20, 2009 by Ken Blue

HELL
By Ken Blue
Hell is a place you need not go
With its everlasting sufferings
As a blazing inferno

Hell has no breeze; not one drop of rain
To ease the inhabitants
From their eternal pain

Hell is the home of the lost and the damned
With no mercy possible
Says Father Abraham

Hell is a place where the soul never dies
Where those weeping and wailing
Never cease their cries

Hell is a place you need not go
Sin’s penalty was paid
A long time ago

Hell has no claim on those who trust Christ
So accept Him today
He’s paid the full price
