Soft Christians
Never should a Christian put their trust in the government (Amos 6:1).  They should always put their trust in God else they become like those of Sodom (Ezekiel 16:49).  With an abundance of idleness comes a lack of grace which is manifested in many ways.

The average Christian wants an easy Christian walk with the Lord.  They would like everything to be wonderful all of the time, but that is not the true Christian walk.  Jesus walked a road of adversity that many soft Christians shy away from, and when they do, they are shying away from Christ.

The purpose for adversity is to prepare the Christian for more adversity.  Every Christian will be confronted with adversity sooner or later.  The soft Christian will turn away from it as fast as they can, and therefore not grow in Christ likeness.

For some reason, young people have developed this idea that when you get old, then you can grow up and live for God.  They neglect to think of the difficulties that an old saint has to deal with; things that they can so easily do in their youth.  The adversity of their youth has prepared them to live a life as an hardened soldier for the Lord during their time of greater adversity.  If they have developed well when they were young in the Lord, then they will have a much easier time serving the Lord in their old age.  But, if they have not faced adversity in their youth, then they often fall away.  Mostly they fall into some form of Christian facade like ministry, or they will back slide altogether.

Start living your life for God NOW!  Don’t become a soft Christian. You may not make it!

THE WRECKING CREW

Every church has critics in the church.  They are like members of a demolition crew. These men/women cannot be detected by steel toed shoes or by hard hats. Most of them wear suits and ties, and have just the perfect hair cut. They will also be seen with their Bible and may sit in the “amen” section.

One of the ways you can detect them is by asking yourself, “What positive thing have they done for the ministry?” The answer, in most cases, will be “nothing.” They act big, talk loud and love attention, but are the first to give the pastor problems.

What is the “ball and chain” they use to wreck a church and its ministries? The first and most lethal is that of gossip. For this to happen, certain people must spend lots of time together without the pastor or staff present. There will always be a “foreman,” but it will be hard to identify him at first. Usually, a select family or more will be invited to their home for fellowship, prayer, and Bible study. This is done without the Pastors knowledge or approval.

You can never stop people from gossip. The best remedy is to preach a few sermons on it, and emphasize from the pulpit the positive things God is doing in the church. As a last resort, it may be needful to call the leader in and confront him about it. Be sure to have one or more staff or deacons present.

Another action that will hinder or demolish your teaching, is for some family or families to have their favorite pastor, evangelist or Bible teacher who is not connected with your church in any manner. You cannot pastor those who put their favorite teacher ahead of you, and are checking your teaching by what their “guru” teaches. One fellow who was reading my books said he checked by the writings of Dr._____.The only way to deal with this team is meet them head on and put a stop to their actions. If they are unwilling to do that, ask them to leave. Again, always have staff and deacons present when dealing with these problems.

A third wrecking crew is those who do not give, or they designate their money to their favorite missionary or ministry. If you have too much money designated, you cannot pay the needed expenses. Do not ask people to designate unless you have a specific project. However, ask them to give it above their tithe. Explain the problem designated monies cause. Most people will understand and work with you. However, there are those who never will cooperate. What should you do? Either return their money, or use it for their designated purpose.

Another area the wrecking crew loves to work on is the finances. The best way to handle this problem is to work with your deacons and one other person who is skilled in finances and develop a budget. Have everyone involved to sign a cover page indicating his or her involvement and approval. The cover page should be attached to the budget with information how it was compiled. Add a paragraph stating that anyone having a question about the budget may go to the deacons. Tell them to not to come to the pastor or staff. Also, state that the budget will not be discussed at any meeting. It will be voted on and approved or disapproved. This procedure disarms those who are seeking status and want to cause trouble. Make the budget and the cover page available 30 days prior to the vote.

The final area the wrecking crews seek to work is in the setting of policies. Remember, those who control the budget and policies, control the church. Policies should be finalized and approved by the pastor. If necessary, this procedure could be formalized in the same manner as the budget.

Be aware, that Jesus, the Twelve, and the Apostle Paul could not escape their critics, neither can you. All you can do is head off as many as you can, and ask God for wisdom. Every church has its wrecking crew; try not to provide equipment for them.

God’s Courtroom

God's courtroomSomeday we’ll all be brought into God’s courtroom.  We will all answer for our crimes–SIN!

God is the judge of all the universe.  The Bible says that we must all give an account to God (Romans 14:12).  God is the righteous judge.  He will not let sin go unpunished.

For 6000 years, man has passed judgment upon God.  Most of the time man’s judgment on God is based on feelings or prejudice.  God will not so do.  The time will come when God will pass judgment upon man and His judgment will be based on facts alone.

Witnesses will be brought forward to testify either for us or against us.  The vast majority of these witnesses will testify against us.  In doing so, they will reveal the secrets that we thought we had so well hidden.

The witnesses will not be other people.  They will be witnesses such as: conscience, opportunity and sermons.

 

Dr. Blue does an excellent job of painting a picture of God’s courtroom for you to see. You can easily imagine being there as you listen to this short AUDIO SERMON.

This is one of the best sermons ever preached. It is a classic. If it doesn’t move you, then something is deeply wrong with your life.

WHAT IS MEANS TO BE A BIBLE BELIEVER

I believe I can safely say that there has never been a time when I didn’t believe the Bible was God’s Word. I went to Sunday school as a boy where the Bible was taught every Sunday. There was always a Bible on the end table and I witnessed my Grandfather reading it many times. My mother instilled in me faith in the Bible. God bless her memory! However, I am confident she had no idea what a dispensation or biblical age was.

I am not an authority on manual script evidence. I leave that brilliant study to the studious. All I have is the simple faith of my mother. I believe the King James Version is the most accurate version available. I never attempt to correct it, nor do I doubt it. If it were possible to hold the very originals from Genesis to Revelation, there would be no way to prove that they were the originals, and I would be right back to my mother’s simple faith. So, I call myself a Bible believer. I pray that I will be a Bible doer.

There are those out there who insist that if you don’t agree with their interpretation, you are not a Bible believer. However, if one can’t distinguish between believing the Bible is without error, and his interpretation of it, it is not safe for him to read it.

There are many rules of Bible interpretation that must be followed; even then we are not infallible. We must be Bible believers, but let us never assume that our interpretation is the final answer. I know teachers who allegorize everything. Then there are those who make everything literal. Finally, there are those who spiritualize what they choose, and make other parts literal simply to establish a pet doctrine. Conclusion, being a Bible believer does not insure that one is inerrant in his interpretation. Understanding that, may give you some grace toward others.

“This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John. 26 And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.” Acts 18:25-26.

The dedication of Apollos could not be brought into question. He was eloquent in speech, fervent in spirit and fully committed to the information he had. But, there was a great chasm between what he knew and what he needed to know. The text says Aquila and Priscilla expounded something to him that was more perfect.

Apollos’s ministry consisted exclusively of the ministry of John the Baptist. That is, he was preaching the kingdom of heaven gospel and practicing water baptism for the same reason John had taught and preached it. (“John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.” Mark 1:4).

Now, what was it Apollos did not know? Keep in mind that Aquila and Priscilla had served with the Apostle Paul and had learned of the dispensation of the gospel of grace from him. They also had a church in their house.

First of all, he didn’t know that the ministry of John and the Twelve was over, and that God was rejecting Israel and cutting them off because of their unbelief. Next, he didn’t know that Paul was God’s new Apostle, and that the dispensation of grace was committed to him. Again, he didn’t know that Jews and Gentiles were being baptized by the Spirit into one body, called the church. This truth was not made known from the foundation of the world. (Ephesians 3:9). Neither did he know the gospel message that had been given exclusively to Paul. (See Galatians 1:11-12). Apollos didn’t know that he could now eat catfish without guilt. Last of all, he didn’t know that the writings of Paul would become the body of doctrine for the new church God was building. Like many today, he needed to learn how to rightly divide the Word of God.

We may thank God for His servants who are gifted and zealous for the Lord. But, zeal without knowledge can be a dangerous thing, and it has done great harm to the church through the centuries. Many today are still laboring under the kingdom of heaven ministry of John the Baptist, and they don’t have a clue as to the more perfect or accurate ministry given to Paul.
