Let me say first of all that I am not a prophet, nor is this matter derived outside the Holy Scriptures. Neither am I a date sitter. No one knows when this world will be destroyed. If I understand Scripture, the end is not for another thousand years. So, you can relax for a minute and catch your breath. “And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. 2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, 3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.” Revelation 20:1-3. I will not post the entire chapter, but for anyone who cares to look it up, he will discover that the thousand years is mentioned six times in these verses. There is no reason to refuse to take this as a literal thousand years. Again, I say relax.
There have been two different floods that destroyed the earth. One was the pre-Adamac earth. It happened in the dateless past. The other was Noah’s flood. God has promised that the earth will never again be completely destroyed by a flood. Most scientists are confident that this earth will be destroyed, and it will not be by water, but by fire.
Simon Peter tells how the world will end. “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.” 2 Peter 3:10. Also, “Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?” 2 Peter 3:12. Very few peoples question the likelihood or the possibility that it will end in flames. They may not believe that God has anything to do with it, but most agree with Peter that it will burn.
Paul also agrees with Peter. “In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:” 2 Thessalonians 1:8. Lastly, John speaks of this fire in the Revelation. “And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.” Revelation 20:9.
We know from Scripture that the earth will be destroyed by fire. This is not in any was contrary to the facts of science. How God will accomplish that is of little concern. He created it with a word; He can destroy it as easily. “For our God is a consuming fire.” Hebrews 12:29.
