SAYINGS ON THE CROSS

“They know not what they do.”

By Ken Blue

Jesus came unto His own.
Who He was, they never knew.
In death, He prayed, “forgive them,
For they know not what they do.”

Two thieves died there beside Him.
One; his fate, was realized.
He was told by the Savior,
“You will be in paradise.”

Mary had, a son given.
For John, a mother was there.
From that day John took her home,
And a new bond they did share.

Abandoned by His Father,
“My God, why forsake, Thou Me?”
The answers in the atonement
He was forsaken for me.

Distressed; He cried for water.
“I thirst;” his anguishing cry.
To drank; they gave vinegar,
And then sat to watch Him die.

Knowing all was accomplished,
“It is finished!” He proclaimed.
Everything was completed.
What man had lost He reclaimed.

He came to do the Father’s will,
And would return, as He said.
While dismissing His Spirit,
He humbly bowed His head.

Jesus came unto His own.
Who He was, they never knew.
In death, He prayed, “forgive them,
For they know not what they do.”
